14C28N

14C28N has a small volume (6%) of fine chromium carbides. 14C28N is easy to sharpen on conventional and natural wet stones. If you are interested in more information on this steel I have covered it on my Instagram as part of my ongoing Steel Saturday series!

14C28N is very similar to AEB-L. It has slightly more Cr as well as a slight nitrogen addition. Both in combination give it better corrosion resistance than AEB-L. It also has slightly larger carbides. However, due to their low volume, these don’t have a large effect on the toughness. 14C28N is a good choice for those who want a bit more corrosion resistance than what is offered by AEB-L for humid environments. I harden 14C28N to 62 Rc.
