A2

A2 has a small volume of chromium carbides making its sharpening characteristics relatively similar to that of low alloy steels. Like them A2 can easily be sharpened on ceramic and natural stones. If you are interested in more information on this steel I have covered it on my Instagram as part of my ongoing Steel Saturday series!

A2 is an air-hardening tool steel that has similar performance characteristics to low alloys steels although it has better wear resistance than all the low alloy steels except Apex Ultra. In addition, it has a decent amount of Cr and Mo in solution which gives it significantly better corrosion resistance than the low alloy steels. I harden A2 to 60-64 Rc depending on the desired characteristics
