AEB-L

AEB-L has a small volume (6%) of very fine chromium carbides. AEB-L is easy to sharpen on conventional and natural wet stones. If you are interested in more information on this steel I have covered it on my Instagram as part of my ongoing Steel Saturday series!

AEB-L was originally developed as a razor blade steel. Its well-balanced composition leads to a very fine microstructure and excellent toughness. While compared to other stainless steels AEB-L doesn’t have very high wear resistance, it does have a significant leg up on most low alloy steels. AEB-L is a great choice for those who want the feel of a low alloy steel without having to worry about rust. I heat-treat AEB-L to 60-64 Rc depending on the desired characteristics.
