Vanadis 8

Vanadis 8 has a large volume (16%) of small MC-type vanadium carbides. Since the carbides are harder than conventional abrasives this steel is very difficult to sharpen on non-diamond stones.

Vanadis 8 is a powder metallurgy steel with high vanadium content. Compared to CPM 10V, Vanadis 8 offers slightly higher toughness at the cost of some wear resistance. Vanadis 8 offers similar toughness to CPM M4 at 64 Rc but offers much better wear resistance although at the cost of some edge stability due to its higher carbide volume. I harden Vanadis 8 to 62-65 Rc depending on the desired characteristics.
