Vancron SC

Vancron SC has a large volume (17%) of very small MX-type vanadium carbides/nitrides. Since the carbides/nitrides are harder than conventional abrasives this steel is very difficult to sharpen on non-diamond stones.

Vancron SuperClean is the cutting edge of tool steel metallurgy. The composition is similar to CPM 10V but substitutes a large amount of carbon for nitrogen. The resulting steel has a finer microstructure and higher attainable hardness than CPM 10V although it costs significantly more and is somewhat less wear-resistant at a given hardness. Vancron SC offers an excellent balance of hardness and toughness above 66.5 RC. I heat-treat this steel 68-69RC.
